Researching AI, non-proprietary software & business models

Summary

Digital democracies

The idea inspiring this initiative is that the strength of democracy depends on the quality of its citizenry. This project seeks to strengthen democracy through research activities and educational interventions addressing key aspects of the challenge. In this project, the focus is on contributing to a fair and sustainable future for democracy in the Nordics and the EU via the technological dimensions of the digital infrastructure. This is also in line with the EU Sovereignity initiative (Madiega, 2020). We believe research in these dimensions may give a critical contribution to the implementation of Arcada strategy in both research and education.

The main goal of this part of the project (the part financed by TUF) is to address the technological dimension of the crisis of democracy by designing, developing and contribute to deploy a digital infrastructure based on non-proprietary software. We look deeper at the role of new technologies and the digital infrastructure of Nordic societies to understand when and how new technologies are part of the problem or part of the solution.
